Joy Found in a New Life
3/1/2010
Spring, and especially the Easter season, is a natural time to think about new life, but this year our family is excited about new life in an extra-special way. We’re celebrating the birth of our twin granddaughters Brooklyn and Danielle.
My wife Joy and I are just as proud as we can be. These tiny, brand-new lives are so precious. When I’m holding them, or any of my other wonderful grandchildren, I think about all the adventures and discoveries awaiting them. I can’t wait to see what they’re going to do with their lives!
It makes me think about the men, women, and children who make the decision to change their lives at the Mission. Reborn as children of God, even some who are as old as I am, can be considered brand-new lives!
“The angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen...’” Matthew 28:5-6a NIV
It also makes me think about the resurrection. The Apostle Paul makes it clear that, without the resurrection, Christians are to be pitied above all men! Without the hope of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead, and eventually our own, we really have no hope beyond what we see on earth.
Thankfully, the resurrection of Christ IS true! During Easter we have the opportunity to share that truth with hurting and homeless men, women and children who need lasting hope for their lives.
I pray you and your loved ones take time to rejoice in Christ’s resurrection during this special season. Because of you and your compassion many of our community’s hurting friends and neighbors have reason to rejoice this season, too. Thank you for your gracious support!
